I couldn’t agree with you more, December. It’s amazing that individuality and independent thinking no longer matters. As much as I’d hate to hear someone didn’t like my stories, I’d wouldn’t bash them for it. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. We should all have the right to express them. To paraphrase Voltaire, I’m might not agree with your opinion, but I’ll defend to the death your right to have one.

I don't think there's any reason at all why men can't write good romance. Some of my favorite fictional romances have taken place in books that perhaps weren't romances in the strictest sense but had those elements just the same-Herman Wouk, for example, wrote two wonderful, lively and beleivable romances in The Caine Mutiny and Marjorie Morningstar. Dickens, Hemingway, Shakespeare, too many other male writers to name...all wrote novels or plays that had romance in them, even if they weren't strictly romance, even if only one of their works had that element.

But if I was a man I'd be terrified to enter the powder-pink den of the Play Nice You Stupid-Ass Readers Sorority House, so I don't blame you. They scare me too.

For lack of a better phrase, December, “I admire the size of your balls”. I’ve thought about trying my hand at writing a bit of romance, but have refrained because what you said here has been my prior perception of the romance writer’s community. Maybe this is why more men, like myself, are hesitant to enter. But then, maybe men like me don’t write it very well to begin with.
