Funny, I like the new rating system and how it's the overall complexity of the entire routine, not a single trick, that can win the night for a skater. What bothers me is how they can give the gold and silver winners the exact same score for artistic value (whatever it's now called) and the american skater was vastly more artistic.

There is one thing I wish would change, and it steps away from 'manliness' to poufiness: I really miss the old system's focus on the movement of the whole body and not just garnering the most trick points. These skaters just flail their arms about haphazardly most of the time. It gripes me to watch that. :)

Ugh, don't even get me started on the Olympics. Normally, I don't care, but this time I do because it's costing my province a shit-ton of money we don't have to host this thing, money we'll likely still be paying 30 or 40 years from now. Not to mention the busloads of homeless people (some with mental and criminal issues) the government shipped to small communities up north (like where I live) so they wouldn't be an eyesore during the big event.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but sympathy for people who for whatever reason can't support themselves. But dammit, we have zero community resources to deal with these people--no shelters, no support network, no freaking nothing. Even our food banks are a bloody joke, really. And they've just been cast adrift here because they'd be an embarrassment to Vancouver during the big event.

So I haven't been watching any of the events. I've got a big enough gutful of anger over my own shit right now to go adding to it, lol.

Not that I think it's wrong for other people to enjoy it--in fact, I'm glad to see a lot of people getting into the spirit of it. In George RR Martin's words, "The cow's been milked, there's no squirting the cream back up her udder." Someone really ought to be drinking that milk so it doesn't totally go to waste, right?
